The true story of my great, great, great, great grandfather David Ogden who was captured by Iroquois warrior Joseph Brant, during the Revolutionary War.
He was captured outside of Fort Stanwix (present day Rome, NY) and forced
to march across New York State to Fort Niagara. There he ran the
gauntlet and survived to be adopted by an Iroquois family whom he lived
with for almost two years. Later the British moved him an a large number
of men to Fort Oswego where he eventually escaped.
When he finally arrived home, he had
grown so much and changed so much that his own mother did not even
recognized him! He lived on into his 90's after also being active in
the war of 1812.
This story is a true work in progress as
I continue to research and gather information. I want to use several
different drums to support the story, The Irish Bodhran, The Military
Snare Drum as well as an Iroquois water drum. There is also a scene in
the story that a set of Uillian Pipes would greatly enhance.
Explores: history of New York State, cultural practices of war, geographic/map reading, math (using estimation and projection) as well as attributes of courage, perseverance and coming of
age. Also, research skills, adaptation techniques, genealogy,
immigration etc.
